Thanks Butch and Sundance!

Robert Redford Died September 16. We lost Paul Newman in 2008. So much of my life was inspired and driven by the astounding collaboration by them in the 1969 movie, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid! I cannot overstate the significance this movie had on me. Transcendent, even, and certainly way more than “impactful.”

Butch and Sundance, the movie, had action, western scenery, beautiful landscapes, adventure, romance, drama; it was fun. Exceedingly so! It had all that stuff, and more, in spades!

The lead actors were gorgeous men – Newman 44 when the movie premiered; Redford 33. And Katharine Ross! For the record, she was 29 in 1969.

I was 12, and that is why the movie was so transcendent to me.

I was falling in love with women before I was a teenager.

I had an active mind and imagination. I lived in California and imagined the wild west would be my own destiny. I yearned for adventure even at that young age.

Hence, all that had a direct impact on the subsequent life I had, including my attraction to women.  And like the stories and chapters from In Between Drinks, or not, much of them can be attributed to that afternoon matinee when I saw Butch and Sundance for the first time. I have probably watched the movie a dozen times or more since that day.

With gratitude to the lives and careers of Robert Redford and Paul Newman – my life would not have been the same if you had not done that movie! Thank you.
