Book Sales and Book Buyers

In Between Drinks offered prominently for sale at Poet’s Book Corner in Duncan Mills, CA
I’m happy to report my book is generating sales. I got a report from my publisher, Palmetto Publishing, that through March I had sold 37 print books and 13 e-books in the U.S., plus 3 books in Germany and two books in Bolivia. That’s a headscratcher, for sure! While I am quite a way from claiming to be an internationally best-selling author, I can now say “international seller.” It doesn’t really have the same ring to it, does it?
I was reading a review of a new biography of author Larry McMurtry, the prolific writer from Texas perhaps best known for his 185 book, Lonesome Dove. Before he got famous, a friend of his gave him a sweatshirt with the custom words on it, “Minor Regional Writer.” The review reported that McMurtry allegedly wore that sweatshirt regularly, in part because it humored him and in part because he thought that most writers are “minor” writers. I would welcome becoming an official or unofficial of his minor writing club.
A friend of mine stopped by the other day for a glass of wine and a brief chat. He saw my book and said this: “A writer’s heart, a poet’s heart, an artist’s heart, a musician’s heart is always breaking. It is through that broken window that we see the world.”
He couldn’t remember the origin, but I looked it up and the quote is attributed to Alice Walker, Author, The Color Purple. It is so true! And beautifully said.
He’s a pic of my friend Ken in South Florida, displaying his recent book purchase!
Thanks Ken!
